Students urged to donate blood at Nov. 12 event

There will be an American Red Cross blood drive in the Parker Student Union on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Up to 20% of the blood drive donations for the Red Cross come from high school and college students,” said Jan Hale, communication manager for the American Red Cross Central Plains Blood Services Region.

Every year in the U.S., about 5 million people need blood transfusions.

Students gathered in the basement of the Student Union to help save lives by donating blood on Feb. 2.

The American Red Cross and the Student Government Association hosted this blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Caleb Dietz, Hutchinson, was one of many students who donated.

“I donate whenever I can,” Dietz said. The Red Cross gave Dietz lifeguard training, so he donates blood to pay it forward.

After people go through the screening process and have their blood tested for iron content, it takes about 15 minutes for the process to be over.

SGA and Red Cross to bring blood drive to student union

The American Red Cross is coming to Hutchinson Community College to host a blood drive sponsored by the Student Government Association, on Monday, Feb. 2, in the basement of Parker Student Union.

“You can make an appointment through the donor app or the website at www.redcrossblood.org,” said Megan Bartly, an SGA member.

The Red Cross Blood Donor app provides information to encourage potential blood donors.
