Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball coach Steve Eck has been named to the NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
The NJCAA made the announcement Monday that Eck and two others would be inducted to the Hall of Fame, which boasts 156 members.
Eck has been Hutchinson’s coach since 2009. In his tenure, Eck has a 274-55 record. His teams have won two Jayhawk Conference titles, two Region 6 championships and the 2017 NJCAA national championship.
The 2016 Blue Dragons were national runner-up. Three other of Eck’s Blue Dragons teams have reached the NJCAA Tournament.
Eck has had success before he came to Hutchinson. In two years at Cowley College, Eck’s teams went 60-8 and won two Jayhawk East titles. Eck also coached Redlands, Okla., where he led the team to a Division 2 national championship and a Division 1 runner-up finish. Eck also coached at Butler, where his teams went 80-22.
Eck, who is a Reno County native (Haven), also had a tremendous stint as a high school coach. In 10 years at Wichita South, Eck’s teams won six Class 6A titles.
In 21 seasons at the junior college level, Eck sports a 596-105 record.
